Next Thursday is the date of the debut of Pepe López and Borja Rozada in the European Rally Championship on the island of Azores, where the competition will be inaugurated with the 52nd Azores Airlines Rallye.
After a splendid past season where he took the title of Peugeot 208 Rally Cup champion in France at the age of 21, he now plays the ERC European Rally Championship in the U28 category, reserved for riders under 28. In this sense, there will be six tests where the Madrid team will have to leave its quality sample to be able to continue progressing year by year and reach new goals. This season is his next step, after proclaiming Champion of Madrid in 2013 and 2014 (carcross), Champion of Spain of Earth (2RM) in 2015 and double Champion of the 208 Rally Cup in 2016 (junior and absolute).
The European Championship is one of the most difficult championships that exist today, due to the large number of vehicles in the same category (29 R5 vehicles have registered in the Azores!) And where there are usually a good number of Portuguese drivers and Islands that make it even more complicated. Also, it will have to take into account the changing weather that has the archipelago and its very frequent rains that can complicate much the stretches.
Pepe and Borja are going to leave this Thursday with all the illusion and force possible to dispute a good rally trying to “fish” some very important points for a championship where the regularity will have its reward in the end of season.
